IL-2(Interleukin-2) is a member of the interleukin 2 (IL2) cytokine subfamily which includes IL4, IL7, IL9, IL15, IL21, erythropoietin, and thrombopoietin. IL-2 protein plays a crucial role in the immune response, primarily functioning as a growth factor for T cells, which are essential for adaptive immunity. Secreted mainly by activated helper T cells, IL-2 promotes the proliferation and differentiation of T cells, thereby enhancing the immune system′s ability to respond to pathogens. IL-2 acts on B cells, supporting their growth and function, which is vital for antibody production. IL-2 regulation is complex, involving multiple signaling pathways, including the c-Fos/c-Jun induction pathway, the c-Myc induction pathway, and the Rapamycin-sensitive pathway, all of which contribute to the survival and proliferation of immune cells. |
