Product Description

FXR1 is an RNA binding protein that interacts with the functionally-similar proteins FMR1 and FXR2. FXR1 plays a crucial role in regulating mRNA translation and stability, which is vital for proper neuronal function and development. FXR1 is particularly important in fragile X syndrome, the most common form of inherited intellectual disability, where mutations in FMR1 gene lead to loss of FMRP protein product. FXR1, along with FXR2 and FMRP proteins, forms heterodimers essential for messenger ribonucleoprotein (mRNP) complex assembly, involved in mRNA transport and localization within cells. FXR1′s interaction with these proteins highlights its significance in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression, particularly in neurons where precise protein synthesis control is critical for synaptic plasticity and cognitive function.
