Cdc27 also known as APC3 is a component of the anaphase-promoting complex (APC), which is composed of eight protein subunits and is highly conserved in eukaryotic cells. Cdc27 plays a crucial role in the regulation of the cell cycle, particularly as a component of the anaphase-promoting complex (APC), which is essential for the timely degradation of cyclins and other regulatory proteins. This degradation is vital for the transition between different phases of the cell cycle, ensuring that cells divide correctly and at the appropriate time. By facilitating the ubiquitination of cyclin B, Cdc27 helps to trigger the metaphase-anaphase transition, thereby preventing errors in chromosome segregation that could lead to aneuploidy or other cell cycle-related disorders. |
