Islet-1 plays a crucial role in pancreatic islets of Langerhans development and is essential for motor neuron differentiation in the neural tube. Islet-1 influences embryonic development and organogenesis, particularly in heart and pancreas, where Islet-1 helps define cardiac progenitor cell populations and is necessary for normal cardiac development and asymmetry.
