Product Description

Plectin also known as PLEC is a crucial cytoskeletal protein that plays a significant role in maintaining cellular integrity by crosslinking intermediate filaments to microtubules and microfilaments, thereby stabilizing the cytoplasm. Plectin′s ability to anchor intermediate filaments to both plasma and nuclear membranes is vital for cellular architecture and function. Plectin interacts with key proteins such as Lamin B and vimentin, with these interactions being modulated by various protein kinases. For instance, phosphorylation by protein kinase A or protein kinase C reduces binding affinity to Lamin B, while phosphorylation by protein kinase A enhances interaction with vimentin. Plectin serves as a substrate for p34cdc2 kinase, highlighting involvement in cell cycle regulation.
