VEGF Receptor 1 plays a crucial role in angiogenesis by serving as a high-affinity receptor for vascular endothelial growth factors (VEGFs), which are essential for the formation of new blood vessels. This function is particularly important in both normal physiological processes, such as wound healing and tissue repair, and in pathological conditions, including cancer, where tumor growth is often dependent on the development of a robust blood supply.
