CRMP-2 aslo known as DRP-2, DPYSL2 is a member of the collapsin response mediator protein family. CRMP-2 plays a crucial role in neuronal development and function, particularly in axonal growth and guidance, which are essential for proper neural network formation and repair. CRMP-2 is primarily located in the cytoplasm and translocates to the growth cone during axonal development, where CRMP-2 interacts with various signaling pathways that regulate cytoskeletal dynamics. Proper localization and function of CRMP-2 are vital for neuronal plasticity and response to external cues, such as the axon guidance molecule Semaphorin 3A, which influences neuronal pathfinding. The human CRMP-2 gene is located on chromosome 8p21.2, a region associated with schizophrenia, highlighting CRMP-2′s importance in both normal brain function and neuropsychiatric disorders. |
