c-Kit also known as CD117 is a receptor tyrosine kinase. c-Kit plays an essential role in various cellular processes, including cell proliferation, differentiation, survival, and migration, by mediating signaling pathways critical for hematopoiesis, mast cell development, and stem cell maintenance. c-Kit′s strategic location on the cell membrane allows effective interaction with stem cell factor (SCF), facilitating vital communication between cells and their microenvironment, which is fundamental for normal physiological functions and immune responses. Additionally, dysregulation or mutations in c-Kit gene are closely associated with the development and progression of several cancers, such as gastrointestinal stromal tumors and acute myeloid leukemia, highlighting significance as a therapeutic target. |
