VEGF-C also known as Flt4-L is a member of the platelet-derived growth factor/vascular endothelial growth factor (PDGF/VEGF) family. VEGF-C plays a crucial role in lymphangiogenesis, the formation of lymphatic vessels, which is essential for maintaining fluid homeostasis and immune responses in tissues. By promoting lymphatic endothelial cell growth, VEGF-C contributes to tissue repair and immune surveillance, while also being involved in cancer metastasis and lymphedema. VEGF-C binding and activation of Flt-4 and Flk-1 receptors highlights VEGF-C′s importance in both normal and disease states, making VEGF-C an important target for therapeutic interventions aimed at modulating angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis. |
